You may have noticed a lack of small updates over the last month. In game development, silence usually means one of two things: stagnation or massive construction. For Shinobi Unleashed, it is the latter.
While we’ve been quiet on the front end, we have been deep in the trenches of the back end. We aren’t just adding features anymore; we are building a multi-million dollar studio infrastructure. We are officially moving away from basic networking and into a true, AAA-standard MMO backend powered by Microsoft Azure and PlayFab.
Why the Silence? (Building the Brain of the Game)
For the past month, I have been architecting a system that allows Shinobi Unleashed to function like a world-class persistent RPG. This is a level of complexity that most indie games never touch. Here is a look at what has been happening “under the hood”:
• PlayFab & Player Accounts: We have successfully implemented a global account system. This means your progress, your inventory, and your legend are no longer tied to a single session. You can log in from anywhere, and your shinobi will be waiting for you – exactly like any major AAA title.
• Azure C# Cloud Scripting: This is the most critical part of our “No Cheating” policy. By using Azure Functions, the game’s core logic—like currency gains, item drops, and stat increases—now happens server-side. Why this matters: Because the logic lives in the cloud, players cannot “hack” their way to infinite money or god-mode stats. The server is the ultimate authority.
• Dedicated Microsoft Azure Servers: No more host-lag or peer-to-peer connection issues. We are utilizing dedicated servers to ensure a smooth, low-latency experience for every player in the Land of Shinobi.
• A Living, Player-Run Economy: We are laying the groundwork for a persistent economy. Player accounts and secure server-side data retrieval allow for a marketplace where you can trade, buy, and sell with others in a secure environment.
From “Indie Project” to “Game Studio”
This work is incredibly complex and time-consuming, which is why the usual weekly updates have been paused. I am building a foundation that can support thousands of players simultaneously without breaking.
We are moving past the “playtest” phase and into the “Persistent World” phase. This backend ensures that when you find a legendary item or master a new S-Rank Jutsu, it is saved securely forever.
Thank you for your patience during this month of deep development. The “Flow of Battle” is the body of the game, but this new Azure-powered backend is its soul.
The wait will be worth it. The true MMO is almost here.
